Beginning Something Doesn’t Have to be Hard

Do you ever hesitate to start a new abstract art project because you think it’s going to be so much work?

Or do you procrastinate beginning because you already have a preconceived notion about how hard it’s going to be or worried that it’s going to take too much time?

I’ve done this before many times and once I finally got started and saw it was much easier than I thought and much more fun than I thought, I was mad I didn’t start sooner.

I would love to help those of you who are either beginners in creating abstract art, haven’t done it in a long time, or just want a quick warm-up exercise, I have some videos and a guide to help you get started.

Even for me, who has spent my entire life creating art, I STILL sometimes want something easy and fun to do just to get started.

On my YouTube channel, Adele Sypesteyn, you can watch two short videos where I demonstrate two different ways I get started.

1.The first one is called “How to Start an Abstract Painting Using Collage.”

Right now, it has 37K views so that tells me it’s extremely popular.

In it I randomly glue down lots of different collage pieces without thinking about design or composition, just get things down and try to cover the entire canvas.

Once that’s done, I can begin to paint on top of the collage or just leave it as is and start another one.

One of the things I love about using collage is that I don’t have to get out all my paints, I just need glue (acrylic medium or gel) collage pieces and a canvas or board.

Easy!!! And I really like easy.

2. The second one is called “One Way to Start an Abstract Painting” and this one is about beginning filling up the substrate by just putting random dots all over.

I did this with a black china marker.

The next step was to begin connecting the dots in whatever way you want.

Once I got started mixing colors on my palette, I just began to create random shapes until it started to really come together.

In the end I not only had fun doing both exercises, but I fell in love with the results.

You have 95 of them to choose from.

And if you haven’t already, make sure you click on the Subscribe button on my channel and the bell to be alerted anytime I post a new video.

By the way, I plan to add lots more to my YouTube channel this year. Hope to see you there often.

Sending tons of love,

Adele
